The use of geodata is undergoing a profound transformation: the Geoinformation Act is in force, the National Spatial Data Infrastructure is being continuously expanded, and demand for innovative geodata applications is growing rapidly. Geoinformation systems are increasingly becoming an integral part of e-government, while the geodata market is expanding dynamically.
Today, almost all sectors work with geoinformation, and hardly anyone goes through a day without accessing maps, plans, or other geodata via smartphone or the web. Whether for business or private use, we expect up-to-date, reliable information at all times—precisely referenced to location.
From a strategic perspective, geodata is gaining importance through its interfaces with other systems. It forms the foundation for digital twins, enabling intelligent process control and the interconnection of government, business, and research. Modern geodata infrastructures support automated workflows, real-time data analysis, and integration into digital services—from smart city management to resource-efficient logistics solutions.
Digital, always-available geoinformation is no longer optional; it is a key building block for efficiency, innovation, and strategic decision-making in business, public administration, and everyday life. Spatial information and technologies are central enablers of the digital society.
