GeoBIM

The integration of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Building Information Modeling (BIM)—known as GeoBIM—is rapidly gaining importance in Switzerland’s construction and geoinformation sectors. Whether in the creation of as-built models, construction documentation, or the transfer of construction data to the cadastre, geodata and BIM models are converging at an increasing number of touchpoints throughout the planning and construction process. However, the systematic integration of these two worlds is still in its infancy in practice—there is a lack of common standards, clear roles, and proven workflows.

As part of the Geoinformation Switzerland strategy, Action 3-26-1 is specifically focused on identifying current challenges and gaps in the GeoBIM field. The SOGI Agile GeoBIM Group supports this process as a mirror group: It contributes broad industry expertise from administration, planning, execution, and research, provides critical and creative input, and ensures that as many relevant roles and aspects as possible—from the client to surveying and the cadastre—are incorporated into the results.

We are pleased to make a practical contribution to the development of GeoBIM in Switzerland through this agile group—and thereby to strengthen the collaboration between the geodata and BIM communities in the long term.
